Team from UCF CS Currently 8th place in XPrize Foundation’s Pandemic Response Challenge

A team of researchers from the AI Things Lab at UCF, consisting of Sharare Zehtabian, Siavash Khodadadeh and professor Lotzi Bölöni is participating in the XPrize Foundation’s Pandemic Response Challenge (https://www.xprize.org/challenge/pandemicresponse).

This challenge focuses on the development of data-driven AI systems to predict COVID-19 infection rates and prescribe intervention plans that regional governments, communities, and organizations can implement to minimize harm when reopening their economies.

The name of UCF team is Pandemic Wave Predictor (PAWP). The XPrize Foundation is running a daily evaluation of the accuracy of the ability of the submitted software in predicting the number of cases worldwide happening in the given day. As of January 4, 2021, in the first phase of the competition, PAWP was 8th out of the 336 registered teams.
