and their coach, Dr. Thomas Nedorost, who won the inaugural North American eSentinel cybersecurity competition on Wednesday, August 15th, 2018. eSentinel is an acquire-and-defend style king-of-the-hill competition where competing teams attempt to gain access to systems, plant their team’s flag, maintain services, and secure these systems from attack by other teams. The competition was created and is run by the Center for Infrastructure Assurance Security at the University of Texas at San Antonio.

In this inaugural event, 44 schools from Canada and the United States entered teams and participated virtually from their home locations. However, only 14 of those teams managed to earn any points during the entire competition. At the end, the results were:

1st Place with 1887 points and 10 services owned – UCF (team40)
2nd Place with 607 points and 9 services owned – Dakota State University (team26)
3rd Place with 409 points and 3 services owned – University of Texas at San Antonio (team08)
4th Place with 214 points and 3 services owned – Rochester Institute of Technology (team44)
