About Junior Knights

Junior Knights is a free program offered to area high school students that introduces computer programming or supplements what students learn in their programming courses in high school.

Each semester, depending on the students we have, we offer a variety of classes. The program shut down in Spring 2020 due to COVID and went on a four year hiatus. We are attempting to restart the program and here are the courses we will offer this Spring 2024:

(1) Introductory Python programming – for students with no programming experience

(2) AP Computer Science A Review Course – to supplement students who are currently taking AP Computer Science A, this course will provide extra practice and teach important concepts from the course.

(3) Introductory Competitive Programming Course – for students who enjoy competitions and are already comfortable programming in either Python, Java or C++.

The 10-12 Saturdays are meant to form a cohesive course, so consistent attendance is a must. Each class will probably break up into groups so that varying levels of knowledge can be accommodated. Here is a sample schedule for each course:

10 – 10:15 am Attendance, Check In

10:15 – 11 am Lecture on a Topic

11 am – 12 pm Work on Exercises

12 pm – 12:15 pm Break

12:15 pm – 12:45 pm More Work on Exercises or Supplemental Lecture

12:45 pm – 1 pm Closing Remarks and Reminders for Next Week
