The Cloudview Window

Cloudview is based on one principal screen, called the Cloudview Window.

The Cloudview Window contains a Navigation Panel (left) and an Edit Panel (right).

NOTE: You can resize the panels by clicking and dragging the boundary between them.

The System-level Edit panel contains three tabs. For information about the tabs, see System Settings.

This section covers the following topics:

Navigation Panel

The Navigation panel displays on the left and, like a file browser, is a tree control.

Leaf nodes can be expanded and collapsed by clicking the "+" and "-" symbols to the left of an icon.

To see a description of each icon, see "Dictionary Object Icons".

System Icon

When Cloudview starts, the left panel displays the System icon: . The System icon represents an instance of Cloudscape and the environment in which it is running. System settings are determined at the time you start up Cloudview.

The System level always appears at the top of the Navigation panel tree, and all databases opened in a Cloudview session are associated with a single system. For the duration of that session, open databases inherit the system's system-wide configuration parameters (properties). There is one System per Cloudview session (including additional Cloudview windows).

When the System node is highlighted, tabs in the right panel display system-level information, including

For more information about the System tabs, see "System Settings"

Dictionary Object Icons

When you open a database in Cloudview, the Navigation tree expands to include a Database node (icon ) for that database. A database node can be expanded to show an icon for each type of dictionary object which, in turn, can be expanded to show any actual objects of that type in the associated database.

The following table lists Cloudview object types and their associated icons. Click on an object icon to learn more about Cloudview functions for that type of object.

In the Navigation panel, right-click any icon to see the available actions for that item. You can also access operations from the main menu or the right panel menu.

Edit Panel

The Edit panel displays in the right side of the Cloudview window, and its contents change depending on the current level selected in the left panel. At each navigation level, the right panel offers tasks appropriate for that level.

Whenever a database or database item is selected in the Navigation panel, the top of the right panel displays three buttons:

NOTE: All options on these menus can also be accessed from the main File and Edit menus.

You can use the menus, SQL-J statements, or the Edit panel to perform most Cloudscape tasks. However, the following tasks can only be performed from the main menu:
