What's New in Version 3.6?
New features have been introduced in the following areas:
Cloudscape
The following new features have been introduced in this version of Cloudscape:
- Autoincrement
You can define integer columns to have a default of AUTOINCREMENT, which means that Cloudscape automatically generates a sequential number for the value of the column for each new row.
- Enhanced Ability to Change Database Schemas
Change the width of character or byte columns
- Configurable Encryption
Cloudscape now supports both diverse encryption algorithms and encryption providers other than the default Sun JCE provider. Configurable encryption allows non-U.S. customers to plug encryption providers available in their country into Cloudscape and to strengthen the encryption algorithm.
- Updatable VTIs
Cloudscape's new VTI interface allows you to create VTI classes that present external data as a table that you can insert into and delete from, as well as select from.
- Improved support for J2EE Features
Cloudscape has extended support for some J2EE features such as global transactions and connection pooling.
- Support for More Isolation Levels
Cloudscape 3.6 now supports the JDBC isolation level TRANSACTION_REPEATABLE_READ (ANSI level 2).
Cloudview
- Aliases
You can now create class aliases and user-defined aggregates in Cloudview.
- Configurable Encryption
The New Database dialog contains a tab for specifying encryption algorithms.
- Autoincrement
The Table creation tab now lets you specify autoincrement type columns, as well as the starting value and the increment amount.
- Shutdown Database
You can shut down or close a database from Cloudview.
- Convert to Source
You can convert a non-synchronization-enabled database to be a source database from Cloudview.
- Set Table Locking
You can set table locking levels from Cloudview. Locking can be set to row-level or table-level.
ij
Server
- RmiJdbc Version Checker
The RJPing utility has a new rmiJdbcVersion argument.
- RmiJdbc Connection Pooling
Connection pooling is supported under RmiJdbc.
- RmiJdbc XA
XA interfaces are now accessible through RmiJdbc.
Cloudsync
- Refresh authentication
Cloudsync supports authentication of incoming refresh requests for improved security. You can configure your system to use built-in refresh authentication, two-way refresh authentication using SSL, or application-defined refresh authentication.
