Vehicular networks are a subject of much attention in recent years. The approval by FCC for the use of 75 MHz of spectrum for Dedicated Short Range Communications (DSRC) and the resulting DSRC system is expected to be the first wide-scale vehicular ad-hoc network (VANET) in North America . Meanwhile, Japanese auto manufactures are working on an ambitious Advanced Safety Vehicle project, and The German Ministry of Education and Research has sponsored the Fleetnet and Network on Wheels projects. Vehicular networks are becoming research hotspots throughout the world in government, industry and academia.
Research in NetMoC
Researchers in NetMoC are targeting at the cutting edge techniques and approaches in vehiclular networks. We focus on the characteristics that make VANET different from other kind of ad hoc networks. Such characteristics would help us understand how the traffic and vehicle flows, etc. affect the network performance. We analyze and evaluate existing network/communication protocols and algorithms on VANET and take endeavors to make new designs. Vehilce mobility models, MAC extensions, transport and routing algorithm are the main research tasks for VANET related projects in NetMoC.
