Required Course Packet: Available at College Book & Supply (CB&S) THIS IS THE ONLY LOCATION TO PURCHASE THE COURSE PACKET. Packet contains Lab Manual, Zip Disc, and Cassette Tape

Course Objective: Students will develop skills in playing and programming synthesizers and drum machines with computers. Projects will utilize the Macintosh software Digital Performer 3.0.

Class: Instruction will consist of lectures and demonstrations, making attendance mandatory. Attendance WILL be taken. You will be allowed ONE unexcused absence. More than one unexcused absence will result in a lower final grade. A doctor’s note must be shown for illness.

In addition to class time, each student must spend at least two hours in the lab each week. There will be eight lab assignments that each student is responsible for, and completed labs will be shared with the rest of the class after their completion.

Schedule of Topics:

1. Historical development of electronic music and synthesizers
2. Macintosh/MIDI basics
3. Introduction to lab equipment and Digital Performer 3.0
4. Specific topics follow lab schedule

Access Keys: Keys to the lab will be signed out from the Music Dept. Office during regular business hours (9am-5pm), and at the UCF Police Dept. after hours.

Other Rules: Headsets MUST be worn between the hours of 8:00am and 5:00pm. Students MUST fill out a lab report sheet for EACH VISIT to the lab. The telephone (823-0463) is for LOCAL calls only.
