My name is Gürkan Solmaz. I currently work as a Research Scientist at NEC Labs Europe (Germany) in areas such as internet of things (IoT), smart cities, and crowd mobility analytics. Previously, I received my Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the Department of EECS of University of Central Florida (UCF), USA.


During my Ph.D., I was under supervision of Dr. Damla Turgut at Networking and Mobile Computing Lab. My research interests included wireless ad hoc and sensor networks, mobility models, and disaster resilience in networks. I received my M.Sc. degree in Computer Science from University of Central Florida and B.Sc. degree in Computer Engineering from Middle East Technical University (METU), Turkey.

I am a member of IEEE, Communications Society (ComSoc), Computational Intelligence Society (CIS), and Young Professionals.

During my PhD, I worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant and assisted computer science classes (e.g., Object-Oriented Software Development) for two years. I also worked as a Graduate Research Assistant in the programming team of UCF Office of Research and Commercialization for two years. Prior to my PhD, I worked at Turk Telekom SEBIT Information & Education Technologies Inc. as a Software Development Engineer for one year.
