Wekiwa means bubbling water (water from a spring that forms a boil).
Wekiva means flowing water (water that forms a creek or river).
8,000 acres of natural Florida woodland that has a crevasse in the ground
which emits 42 million gallons of crystal clear water a day. At the point
of this crevasse forms a large crystal clear pool. It's water remains a constant
73 degrees all year.
The spring that flows from this crevasse, after passing through the large pool,
continues on to form the Wekiva river. The Wekiva river is about 15
miles long and empties in to the St. Johns River.
The park has 13 miles of hiking trails as well.
