My 1989 UCF High School Contest Solutions
Note: These problems are posted off of UCF's site, but no data is available
for them.
I have made data for all of these problems, but it has not been verified
by anyone. If you are experienced and think this is fun, see if you can
(a) write a solution, (b) make sure your output matches mine, and (c)
make sure the data is within bounds. If you get a discrepancy, please
email me and I will look into it.
Of particular note are two problems: Room Service (sheet) and Motorcross
Scoring. I really would feel much better if I had a geometry specialist
double check my data for Room Service. I feel reasonably confident and
wrote a second solution which only solves a subset of cases in a different
way and the answers provided for that subset are consistent between
the two solutions. But, I am less confident about this solution than
any of the others I've written. Motorcross has an extremely vague
output specification. In fact it says, "Format your output in
any readable manner." This is very unprogramming contest like and
felt much more like a school homework problem or a real-life type
program. I tried to match the output of the pdf, but I imagine 5 people
trying to match it would come up with five different output formats
(mostly differences in white space...) I made a very detailed test case
for motox (I did it by hand and it probably took an hour and a half,
maybe some current f1 fans might get a kick out of the subset of my
data =)) So anyone trying to verify the latter should probably just look
at my code to count my spaces and formatting just to see if it actually
matches or just match tokens...though I feel like white space is a
non-trivial part of that problem.
