TOK notes 2-06-02 Wednesday The question discussed was: Does making a knowledge claim carry any particular obligation or responsibility for the knower? So if you have a piece of knowledge some questions that should be asked are: 1) Does anyone "need" to know? 2) Would anyone benefit from this knowledge? 3) Does anyone deserve to know? Another important question regarding these three is: Who is qualified to answer the questions posted above? One of the sentiments expressed was that generally, you are best off the more everyone knows. Another question to ask is, even if you discover something, is it necessarily your information to disseminate, or choose not to give? Ultimately though, in real life, whether you are qualified to answer some of these questions or not, you still have to try to the best of your ability. Perhaps you are responsible to tell if others are in danger or could stand to benefit from the information. Maybe the goal should be utilitarian: the best for the most people. One other question posed: Why do rules about disseminating information etc. change during war? And is that justified? How so?
