TOK notes 1-30-02 Wednesday

We did the circus debate.

Here is a summary of the critiques made:

About the pro side (those who felt animals in the circus were treated just
fine):

Some of the rebuttals were not directed at the other side's comments
Too many rhetorical questions.
Pointed out some facts that clearly give their side support (life span)
Did use arguments that appealed to common sense.

About the con side:

Some repetition.
Did a good job with their first set of arguments.
But asked some ridiculous questions.
Used specific examples.

Some general comments for both sides:

Some people were very unsure of what they were saying, while others were
able to speak w/o any notecards. Certainly some research was done by both
sides. A couple of times, each side contradicted themselves.
