IDS6713 Virtual Reality: An Applications Platform - Spring 2010

Deliverables

The following are some instructions about what to turn in and what it should look like. If you have any questions, email me and we will figure it out, updating this page as well.

Summary and Reaction Paper: 2-4 Pages

This paper should include an overview of the articles, your thoughts, your agreements and disagreements. See here about reaction papers. This is a real deliverable and I will be critically reading these. See me if you have questions or want to talk things through. I am looking for reinterpretation of what you read and hopefully new exciting insights!
Use the CHI Extended Abstract Format. This will get you used to working within formatting constraints.
Due at midnight of the given day and via email as a Word document. If this is a problem, let me know. See here for help writing with Word.
See the writing help section at bottom.

Short Review Paper: 4 Pages

This will cover a topic of the presentation phase which you will ok with me. You should include at least 7 references to explicit projects (i.e. non-overview or survey papers though these should be covered if they exist). You will be expected to turn in 2 of these during the presentations phase of the course.
Due at midnight of the given day and via email as a Word document. If this is a problem, let me know. See here for help writing with Word.

In-Class Presentation

You will be expected to lead discussion, paired with another student, on topics in the later stages of the course. You will suggest reading assignments and post notes and resources. This will essentially be a gathering of resources that helped you learn this topic. This will all be posted to the course's private website.

Application Paper Collection

You will be collecting applications papers, one per class period starting February 18th. These papers will demonstrate a VR/AR/3D/RealityBased/etc application that is being used to serve a purpose for some community of users; that allows this community to work harder, better or faster. Short papers are fine but I like to see larger applications, and these generally will have a full paper associated with them (unless they are very recent). Do not bring in duplicates from past papers. Add you paper's pdf here: Application Paper Archive
