ExploreNet has been under development for four years, and is now available for evaluation by teachers, educational developers, kids, experimenters, indeed anyone who will use it for the good of humankind and the Web.

You need the following equipment to use ExploreNet in stand-alone mode:

* 486/25 mhz or faster, 32 mb RAM and 30 mb available hard disk space.

* Windows 95, 98 or 2000, or even Win 3.1, if you have some version of Winsock..

To use ExploreNet in a networked fashion to connect to nearby friends or players elsewhere in the world, you will in addition need

* an InterNet SLIP or PPP connection or another way to support WinSock.

* some version of Winsock. The one that comes built-in to Windows 95 and beyond works fine.

Who will I Meet on ExploreNet? If you wish to try ExploreNet remotely, you will probably need a friend will also need to be properly licensed.

What do you need to know? You should be a reasonably capable Windows computer user; you'll need to create directories, copy files from places to place, etc. You will need a text editor if you try to change any of the ExploreNet world descriptions. There isn't any programming required to do the testing we are now asking of you.

Where do you get the software? It's freely downloadable at  http://www.cs.ucf.edu/~ExploreNet/ExploreNet.zip

Evaluation Form for ExploreNet(tm)

1. Please describe any technical difficulties you encountered. If any actual error messages were produced, it is useful to specify the ExploreNet world you were using, exactly what you did to produce the error message, and the message itself.

2. Please provide critical feedback as to the usefulness of ExploreNet in its present form. What would you like to accomplish with ExploreNet? What were the two (or more) most significant obstacles to successful use of the software?

3. Is the documentation adequate? Which sections need further clarification and extension?

4. What accessories (from your own software library) do you find most useful in conjunction with ExploreNet? What tools do you wish you had but which are not available to you?

5. Any other advice to the builders of ExploreNet would be appreciated.
