SEECS Director Receives Honor from the President of France
On November 14, 2001, Erol Gelenbe, SEECS Director, was named an Officer of the National Order of Merit of France (Officier de l'ordre national du merite) by decree of the President of France and on the recommendation of the French Minister of Research. In his letter dated Nov. 15, 2001, the French Minister of Research states, "This distinction, for which I express my warmest and sincere congratulations, crowns an exceptional professional career, which I am particularly happy to see recognized." Gelenbe said the experience has been a tremendous honor and he is extremely proud of this National Order of Merit of France medal.
