In addition, graduate programs grew by 300 percent during his four years as director. Undergraduate programs in Computer Science and Engineering grew by close to 50 percent in this period, reaching 1,300 and 650 students respectively. In addition, a new B.S. degree program in Information Technology was developed and now has more than 350 student majors.
In his message to the faculty, Erol said, “I am confident that CS, CpE and EE are now stronger than they were a few years ago, and hope that further recruitments of faculty will continue this year.”
He added: “I am deeply grateful to all at UCF who have helped me in administrative duties, who have provided friendly and collegial support and encouragement and all who have engaged in recruitment activities, graduate and undergraduate program development and funded research development. I am also grateful to those who joined CS, CpE and EE either as staff or as faculty after I came here. I look forward to many more productive and intellectually interesting years ahead for all of us, and wish us all the pleasure that we can derive from friendly collaboration and mutual support.”
