Operational Structure and AccreditationThe BS IT program is offered as one of the degree alternatives in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (SEECS). This is the fourth degree program in SEECS, joining Computer Engineering, Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. Including Information Technology each of these degree programs is managed by a Program Director who reports directly to the Director of SEECS. While the previous three programs in SEECS are fully accredited. The BS in IT program, as a new degree program, has not yet undergone an accreditation review. BS in IT programs are quite new and growing rapidly in universities across the country. No standards have yet been formalized for these programs, but standardization work has begun. It is important to note, however, that the majority of core courses required of IT majors are existing courses taken from the accredited programs in CpE, CS, and EE. Faculty members for the IT program are hired into the existing disciplines of CpE, CS, and EE and are required to meet the tenure standards of those disciplines. |
