Information Theory

  • Fundamentals of information theory and communications systems.
  • Topics include
    • the definition of information, bandwidth, and frequency spectrum.
    • filters, modulators, and demodulators
    • antennas and propagation as they relate to wireless communications

Circuit Analysis

  • Understanding of electrical networks
  • Includes
    • definitions of charge, voltage, and current
    • resistance and impedance and their impact on circuit performance
    • circuit analysis techniques including DC and steady state AC analysis.
    • power calculations, distribution and dissipation
    • examples relating to IT, including cables, connectors, and buses.

Networking Lab

  • Undergraduate focus
  • Students to develop hands-on skills
  • Permit frequent reconfigurations
  • Introduce key technologies
    • Ethernet/Fast Ethernet/Gigabit Ethernet
    • ATM
    • Frame Relay
    • IP Routing

Writing Requirements

  • All IT majors are required to take ENC 3241 (Technical Writing) and one of the following:
    • CRW 3930 (Creative Writing for non-English Majors)
    • ENC 4293 (Technical Documentation I)
    • ENC 4265 (Writing for Computer Industry)
    • ENC 4414 (Studies in Hypertext)
    • ENC 4415 (Digital Rhetoric)
