The University of Central Florida (UCF), located in Orlando, is a young and dynamic institution with a student population of approximately 39,000. At the same time, the Computer Science Program, which offers both the Master of Science and the Doctor of Philosophy degrees, has a long and well established history having conferred MS degrees since1968 and our first Ph. D. in 1980. The MS program is designed as a terminal degree especially suited to enhance career advancement and to provide the theoretical foundation to take advantage of the changing technological world in which we live. The Ph.D. degree gives the necessary research expertise for successful placement in either an industry or academic career.

Orlando, one of the nations most dynamic metropolitan areas and noted for it's quality of life and vacation attractions, is the center of Florida's I-4 high technology corridor. In addition, adjacent to the University is one of the nations most successful research parks offering career opportunities in simulation and training, software development, optics and laser's, and micro-electronics.

Computer Science currently has over 30 full-time faculty with expectations of increasing to 35-40 over the next 3-4 years. We have over 150 graduate students, with more than 50 supported by graduate teaching/research assistantships, who receive a broad background in the areas of programming systems and languages, computer architecture, and computer science theory while specializing in a research area under the individualized direction of their faculty advisor. Research interests of the faculty include parallel computing, VLSI, artificial intelligence, computer vision, networking technology, graphics and simulation, databases, and design and analysis of algorithms.
