UltraEdit this site provides the shareware "UltraEdit-32" version 12 text editor and code development environment, among other things. Probably the best application of its sort in existence. UltraEdit will open and save ANY file for viewing and editing. UltraEdit natively understands JAVA, C, VBS, VBA, VB, and other coding languages.
EssentialPIM this site provides the shareware "EssentialPIM" version 1.71 and other PIM (Personal Information Manager) applications. One of the better ones.
Exact Audio Copy this site provides the freeware "EAC" version 0.95 beta 4 (2006/02/21) and other audio CD ripping software and links. Arguably the most accurate application of its type.
Gibson Research Spinrite this site provides the ubiquitous "Gibson Research Spinrite" version 6, "ShieldsUP", and other utilities. Steve Gibson is probably one of the best known names in the software industry, so I don't think I need to extol any further the very high regard I have for the afore-mentioned products, except to say that, if you have a hard disk drive, you need SpinRite, and, if you use the Internet, you need to run your PC through ShieldsUP. NOTE OF INTEREST: Steve Gibson writes ALL of his Windows applications in Assembler!
Girsoft this site provides the freeware "AVG-Free" version 7. One of the best anti-virus products available, even though it is freeware. AVG-Free directly competes with Symantec-Norton and TrendMicro products, and AVG-Free is a LOT less intrusive into one's system than Norton or Trend.
MemTest86 this site provides the freeware "MemTest86" version 3.2 RAM module tester. As good or better than the old Touchstone CheckIT Pro version 3 (now owned by Smith-Micro).
MP3 Converter this site provides the freeware LAME 3.96.1 MP3 converter required by EAC.
Mozilla this site provides the freeware "Firefox" version 1.5.0.2 web browser and the "Thunderbird" version 1.5 e-mail client, as well as the "Mozilla Suite". Great replacements for IE and Outlook.
MP3 Tag this site provides the "MP3Tag" version 2.35 tag editor.
MIDI Scan this site provides the "SmartScore" version 5 (formerly MIDI Scan) scanning conversion to MIDI software. Just about the best product of its type. Essential if you have sheet music you need to scan and convert into editable form (let's say you need to transpose the key of a piece of music from one key to another so that your clarinet player can play the alto sax part).
Bart PE this site provides the freeware "BartPE" pre-execution environement.
Open Office this site provides the freeware "OpenOffice.org" version 2.0.2. A great, free alternative to Microsoft Office. Includes a diagramming application similar to Microsoft's Visio. OpenOffice.org is a JAVA application.
Spybot Search and Destroy this site provides the freeware "Spybot Search & Destroy" version 1.4. One of the best ad-blockers and spyware blockers in existence. Can be used in conjuction with other ad-blockers. Very non-intrusive to the system.
