CGS 3175: Internet Applications
Assignments



There will be eight hands-on assignments during the semester, all of which must be submitted according to the assignment instructions by the posted due date to receive credit. Please note that this course has a "no late work" policy, so make sure to submit your assignments on time. All assignments are due by midnight of the posted due date.

Assignment Descriptions

Assignment 1 - About You

Send an e-mail to jlazar@labs.cs.ucf.edu with your website development and IT experience. Please include your goals for this class and what you indend on learning this semester.

Assignment 2 - Basics of XHTML

Send a zip file to cgs3175@labs.cs.ucf.edu with the files needed to meet the following requirements:
  • A XHTML website with your name
  • Your lecture instructors name
  • A contact e-mail address as a hyperlink
  • Three (3) other websites you do not think a lot of people use as hyperlinks
  • Any picture within the Golden Rule requirements.
  • Zero use of CSS or any WYSIWYG editors

Assignment 3 - Basics of CSS

Using your Assignment 2 files, send a zip file to cgs3175@labs.cs.ucf.edu that meet the following requirements:
  • An example of Inline CSS
  • An example of Page level CSS
  • An example of Site level CSS
  • An example of the CSS Box Model, preferably to design the entire web page
  • Convert hyperlink styling and text formatting into CSS

Assignment 4 - Personalized E-mail

Send an e-mail to cgs3175@labs.cs.ucf.edu that explains how to create your own personalized e-mail address. To make sure you are getting the best deal, compare two different ways to do this within your analysis.

Assignment 5 - Website Storyboard

Send an e-mail to cgs3175@labs.cs.ucf.edu with a Storyboard of your Final Website. Please submit a graphic or an Office document to the grader for review.

Assignment 6 - Website Host

Send an e-mail to cgs3175@labs.cs.ucf.edu with your choice of a website host for your Final Website. Include documentation of the websites that you reviewed and why you chose your specific host for your website.

Assignment 7 - Website Base

Send a link to cgs3175@labs.cs.ucf.edu showing your progress with the Final Website. You should have at least 3 web pages and a CSS navigation system in place by this date.

Assignment 8 - Final Website

Send an e-mail to cgs3175@labs.cs.ucf.edu stating that you Final Website is complete. Your Final Website should have at least 4 different web pages, a site level CSS, a reasonably professional look, a continuously flowing topic, and be coded by XHTML standards (http://validator.w3.org/).
