      <description>
Final grades, including grades for exam 4, are now posted on
the grades web page. You will need the password sent in email
to view them. Exam 4 was graded to give you your best
percentage with or without problems 4b and 5a, which most
people missed. We have decided on final letter grades,
so the letter grades on the grades page are the ones submitted
to the Registrar. You can stop by
after 10am any day the rest of the week and get your exam from
        Gary (except Friday 9:45-2pm).

      <description>
The rest of homework 10 is due Tuesday, December 5.
If you are working at home, download hw342.zip from the course
        web page.
On Thursday at 4:55pm, we remade the course libraries with a
better (more elegant) version of the code for deref and eval-thunk that
corresponds to our discussion in class on Tuesday.
If you are working at home, to get the new code,
you should download a new copy of the homework zip file
hw342.zip, and a new copy of the course library, lib342.zip,
and rerun the setup program (see the course library page)
        after doing that.

Due to the rescheduling of exam 3, homework 9 is also
rescheduled and problems are due Thursday November 16, 2006.
You should already be able to do most of these problems, and
so we suggest that you most of them this week, instead of next week.
If you are working at home, download
hw342.zip from the course web page.
At 9:14pm on Nov 15, we fixed the example in problem 4(a),
thanks to Kirk Sykora, which was missing an derek. The use of
"rx" on the last line should have been "deref(rx)".

If you are working at home, download

On October 25 we fixed a problem with the numbering of the
last problem (which is problem 9, not problem 1).
On October 29 we corrected problem 4, which is now correctly
noted as an extra credit problem.

As Steve mentioned in class yesterday, you should turn in homework
at the start of the lecture meeting at which it is due.
The penalty for turning in a problem after class starts is the
same as the penalty for turning it in by 5pm that day,
which is meant to encourage you to come to class instead of
working on homework during class. You can finish up homework
after class without additional penalty that day.
Please print out what you have done before class and hand that
in to avoid penalties on those problems.

Why learn Scheme? Besides needing it for the study of
programming langauges in our course, there may be other
reasons, as explained in this essay Paul
Graham about the expressive power of Lisp and how it helped in
a startup company. Note that Scheme is a dialect of Lisp.

The course library tells how to work with DrScheme at home,
including getting your own copy of the course Scheme library,
        lib342.zip.
If you get errors when installing a new version of the
li342.zip on your homemachine, and if you had previously
        installed an old version,
then try deleting the both old library directories
	(PLT/collects/lib342 and
	PLT/collects/typedscm) first, and then reinstall
and run the setup program again. Contact the course staff if
that doesn't help. You can always use the department Unix
machines which have a working install if all else fails.
